Wow. Before I actually post something of importance I just have to say this : I applaud whoever created that video-- definitely blew me away and was a blatant sucker punch towards Obama. BRAVO! Anyways, it's obvious as to the intent of this video and the creators are justified in their opposition to the Obama Administration and the so called "change" they've promised to bring to America. Obama's campaign gave renewed hope to some American citizens as he promised change, a better economy,a better life, a SAFER America. But two years into his presidency, Obama has already turned his back on his campaign promises. Bailouts, bribes, stifling our individual liberties, overtaxing, among other things have become the basis and the product of Obama's Presidency so far. He hasn't fulfilled his core promises to the American people yet and the way in which he is running the country is borderline socialism. When Palin brought up the "s-word" in one of her numerous speeches, it didn't seem plausible. But after seeing the impact of Obama's proposals and policies, it's crystal clear as to what Palin's referring to. The video also made it clear that the government was getting overly involved and gaining more power, thus oppressing some of our individual liberties. The purpose of our government is to protect our inalienable rights. Furthermore, the massive emphasis placed on government spending and our fiscal status (or lack thereof) hinders America's reliability globally. This video will undoubtedly weaken the reputation of the American government globally and will be an impressive and well deserved blow to the Obama Administration. Lastly, the video ended with an indignant " now you want out health care?", further emphasizing how far the greedy hands of our government is willing to go, even though they are breaching the laws of democracy and shifting towards socialism. It seems like Obama is doing a better job disappointing our founding fathers than bringing that a famed change to our country.
It was funny until I had a seizure halfway through the clip. On a serious note, it is remarkable to see how democrats have become so thoroughly opposed to the ideology that founded its existence as a faction. The notion that liberalism destroys individual freedom was mentioned in the clip and seems like an oxymoron. Thus, the veracity of the statement that more government destroys individual liberties is a true one. In addition, this conservative-supported ad rages against the faults of the democrats without recognizing its successes- a common propaganda technique. It's a funny advertisement and one that provokes a bit of thought.
Wow! I think everone in the United States should see this! Our economy is not in the best shape right now and the government needs to do something about it. We spend billions of dollars- our dollars- for unnecessary bills. But I was wondering, if no one is getting out of their house and voting, how can we expect America to change? I bet people have really good ideas, but they use excuses like "the weather is bad" or "My vote won't count" to not speak their voice. The executive branch, has promised change in 2008. It is now 2010, and not much change has happened. Our economy is not getting any better. How long does the governement think they could keep this up?
This video is awesome! I love the expression of the opinions and the accusations. My favorite part would be the "Were BROKE. +10 percent unemployment. And now you want... our health care??.... MIDDLE FINGER!" Hahah Very well placed. I would have to agree with this video and I agree someone should win an Academy Award for this!
The ad lacks any real substance other than emotional attacks. Even the data proposed lacked substantiating evidence. We have yet to reach a national average of +10% unemployment; it is currently marked at 9.6% (Texas has one of the highest with a 9.8%). The clip insinuates that the Troubled Asset Relief Program has been inflated by liberals when in reality it was signed into office by W. Bush with an expected cost of $356 billion but as of April 2010 the actual cost was down to $89 Billion (less than 1% GDP). The superimposed $700 billion is a grand total cost of the bill through two W. Bush terms and one half Obama's term thus far. The clip also disregards basic principles of Keynesian boom-bust cycle economics and the necessity to spend money in order to rise from recession. In all, the short clip is just that, a clip, a cut out, a slip of the big picture. It serves only to reinforce this idiotic notion that politicians are in fact all that different. They will oppose each other on any issue possible to maintain the "us against them" image. Republicans are just as corrupt as democrats. Democrats are just as rich as Republicans. This clip might serve better as an add for a video game.
Who ever made this video is very passionate about what they feel about the government. And evidentally they are very informed. But I don't believe they are giving him a chance it takes a while to completely turn around a country it will take more than four years and probably more than one man! It is an excellent video and the facts are great but have faith I believe he is trying to make it work.
Yes, this video is very well put together. It stirs up a lot of emotion in the viewer. Whoever made this (scary that we really DON'T know in this grand democracy of ours) knows exactly what images to show and buttons to push i.e. the Soviet hammer and sickle and the "S-word." Final grade: A+ for propaganda D- for substance
This video really scares me, to be honest. As we were watching it in class, I was aware that it was propaganda, but I also felt a small part of me that wanted to shake my fist and agree. And I am in no way a "nobama" type of person. The video touches at many emotional points, but it isn't valid because it skews the facts of government spending, the recession, and Obama's "Socialist" policies (the most glaring inaccuracy being the "+10% unemployment rate" slide). It's easy to blame the president who made big promises when things aren't going perfectly, but that doesn't mean that Obama is to blame for America's every problem. The economy doesn't go downhill overnight -- it takes plenty of faulty policies and plenty of time. Just the same, the economy doesn't repair itself overnight either. It's hard to believe that the public perception of Obama has shifted from a benevolent figure fighting for change to a greedy liar rubbing his hands together in the corner. So let's stop with this sensationalist, jump-on-the-band-wagon approach of blaming one man for problems that we never bothered to prevent.
This video does hold alot of emotional impact. It's also very convincing for people who doesn't have an opinion about politics or people who are tired of Obama's administration. However, the Republican Party is also very corrupt and the Democrat Party also compromises and works with the Republican Party too. In addition, I wouldn't say Obama is completely a socialist. The disorganized Republican Party is attempting to recover from a string of electoral defeats by allowing the far-right to employ a tried and true practice in American politics – red-baiting. People accuse him of a socialist as a easier explanation for a complex social and economic plan. On healthcare, private companies get to receive taxpaper's money instead of a national single-payer program socialists advocated. Also, I always hear Obama haven't done much. So how is he really a socialist. He hasn't made big changes.I agree the Democrat haven't done well, but does that mean the Republican will? I think both parties are somewhat incompetent. Like Camren said, I think it'll take more than four years. (http://www.frumforum.com/is-obama-a-socialist-the-experts-speak)
I think this movie is very well done. Even though it doesn't contain much content and it propaganda based, I think that makes it more effective in a way. Some people are more emotion based on politics instead of just facts. Although, I think it's too harsh on Obama. It's easy to forget that the effects of Bush's terms are still manifesting now during Obama's. It's hard to turn an economy around and there's not exactly right way to do so. Condemning Obama and his policies before he's even completed one term is jumping the gun a bit. But inaccuracies aside, this movie is very effective in stirring up the viewer to turn against Obama and his policies.
I completely agree that this video lacks substance but has an amazing amount of emotional appeal which is really the only factor ever used in propaganda. Even with grossly over estimated numbers it just feeds the fire, and in any case, the majority will react more quickly and powerfully to emotional appeals than to any ethical or logical appeal with thousands of numbers and statistics. So when creating a youtube clip in which people will probably only watch 4 minutes of before clicking onto something more brainless, the creator must use the most affective music and images, and numerical accuracy will be ignored. In my opinion the creator of the video really knows how to rally up emotions, which is what is necessary in this situation.
So obviously the author of this video is blatantly proclaiming his strong dislike for the Obama administration's actions. Maybe his(the author) actions are justified in making such a video. Surely the first amendment protects his right to that but the problem stems from the lack of substance. This video\collage of pictures is baseless at best. Sweeping generalizations are generally unwelcome and the same applies in this case too. Though, I'm sure the video does do its job in stirring up the proper skepticism in our government. Aside from that, the music is quite epic. :)
If you want, I could make videos like this... haha Anyway, as corny and over exaggerated as it sounds, this video is true. It's sad knowing that Obama has failed to keep up with his promises. I can imagine how hard it is to keep a promise like that, but its been two years and we have not seen a noticeable change at all. We have seen troops gradually coming back to the US, but other than that, there is not much that can be said about Obama's presidency.
first off, this video is amazingly awesome! like just wow! this could seriously convince anyone who's on the fence to go Republican althrough there are few on the fence at this point in time. but this video just points faults that Obama and the Democrats have done in the past two years. There are still two more years for Obama to fullfil his promises. And the video does not show how the Republicans plan on fixing the economy or the war or how to even get out off Obama's policy of "socialism" The video is just poining out what the Democrats have done wrong and not what the Republicans will do to fix it.
The video is very eye catching and can make you really look at the Obama Administration from this person's perspective but they should also take into consideration that it is impossible to please everybody and keep this country from drowning at the same time. Yes, some things that the Obama administration does may seem extreme and unorthodox but I don't think he is totally trying to run our country into the ground. I agree that Obama might not be right for the Presidency because he is not able to go through with some policies that he promised but you have to keep in mind that maybe some of his ideas changed because different obstacles and challenges have been thrown at him during his presidency and therefore made him adjust his plans. Not everyone is the same and not everybody has the same opinions so any decision that he makes is going to upset someone but at the same time it will help someone else.
This ad clearly utilized pathos to invoke fear in equivocating voters. People who are not aware of current events may be easily swayed by this incredibly well made clip. It is lacking, however, in facts. It employs mostly emotional attacks which even the most uninformed citizen can relate to. It oversimplifies issues to insinuate exaggerated consequences. Referencing highly connotative phrases like "socialism" and "threat to liberty" are just shameless attempts to scare people into voting Republican. The truth is both Democrats and Republicans are guilty of legislating poor policies. The upcoming election is just an opportunity for the underrepresented party to gain power, done so here with empty emotional tactics. It took almost a decade for the economy to deteriorate (when we had a Republican president, albeit a Democratic majority in the House and Senate), so it will definitely take more than 2 years to fix it.
As much as the video was well made, the message quality is lacking. Sure, it blames President Obama and the democrats for a bunch of issues. But the producer fails to realise the fact that the state of the economy was at it's lowest point since the Great Depression, and it isn't an extremely easy task rebuilding it. Like Colin mentioned, the unemployment rate is below 10%, and we can only blame the state of the economy on the precedents. I don't think the democrats and President Obama should be blamed for trying to fix the mistakes of the Republicans and George W. Bush.
This one-sided blaming also fails in what we know today. We know that the President and his cabinet have fulfilled campaign promises. Fulfilled the obligations and trust put in them by the general public. So for a broken promises out of the hundreds fulfilled, and for not making the economy magically fix itself, I don't think this is a sound argument.
But as a side-note, I do like how the guy put the video together. It's rather creative, and probably took a substantial level of dedication.
This video is EPIC! Like everyone else has already said, the mostly has emotional appeals, not really any facts (especially with the creepy & intense music-which had the effect of the government is coming after you feel). This campaign video parallels to the "Don't Vote/Vote" video we watched in class. That video just appealed to the emotions by practically saying that, "I'm a celebrity and I'm voting, so you should too." I believe that this campaign ad would be way more effective if it had more facts and figures, something tangible, for the viewer to decided whether or not Obama's term has or has not been succcessful so far.
Wow well after watching this clip, I have to agree with Camren. Although the facts may show that our nation's economy and government haven't been so successful for awhile, it can't take just two years for all our issues to turn back around. It was a funny video, shining light on the truth, but as citizens being led by this man, we should all have hope for the better.
I thought the video was just really entertaining. The music was great and the images were really well chosen, but I think that all of that is probably the problem with the video. All of the emotional impact distracts from the fact that the video does not actually show any solid true facts that would completely be Obama's fault besides the health care. It just shows problems with the country and blames them on Obama even though they have been issues long before his election, and then claims his efforts of reform are socialist. But I loved the video. It was definitely awesome.
I agree that this video lacks any real substance other than emotional attacks and crass, opinionated accusations without any real facts to back it up. I must say that the part in the video that really angers me is the (extremely loose) connection of the Obama administration and socialism/communism. The two differentiate quite a lot. Socialism doesn't allow private businesses yet still offers a market, while communism is more of a collective economy, so-to-speak. This meaning that everyone earns the same amount of money for their job no matter what it entails, and that people will take as much as they need. This is the actual, ideological communism originally thought up by Karl Marx and Fredriech Engels. It contains nothing about establishing a militaristic dictatorship that severely limits the rights of its citizens. So could we please stop acting like there's a connection between the aforementioned parties? Because there's not. Especially since Obama has in no way infringed on our rights as citizens. This video is pure propoganda and I feel sorry for those who take it to heart.
Total propaganda piece with no real factual support whatsoever. First of all, the people who support this message most definitely did not support Obama in the 2008 election, and certainly did not "give" him the White House.
Taxes were lowered for 95% of Americans, but no one on the right seemed to notice. The Republicans met a Democratic majority in Congress which was more than willing to compromise -- which is apparent when looking at the health care bill, which was so heavily changed that it lacks most of its main features altogether.
George W. Bush inherited the United States from Clinton with a 200 billion dollar SURPLUS, and by the end of his presidency he had passed down a country with a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit and was fighting two extremely expensive wars.
Don't blame Barack Obama for not instantly solving a problem which took eight years of incompetence to create.
Wow. Before I actually post something of importance I just have to say this : I applaud whoever created that video-- definitely blew me away and was a blatant sucker punch towards Obama. BRAVO!
